The DEXA Three Site scan measures bone mineral density at three major locations—spine, hip, and forearm—for a broader evaluation of skeletal health. This test helps in assessing bone density variations in different regions, useful for patients with asymmetric bone loss or certain metabolic disorders. It uses a dual-energy X-ray beam with minimal radiation exposure. The scan is quick, comfortable, and takes around 20–25 minutes. Physicians use results to diagnose osteoporosis, evaluate fracture risk, and track treatment response over time. avoid calcium medicine atleast 24 hours before test It is suitable for adults, postmenopausal women, and patients on long-term corticosteroids or with chronic illnesses affecting bone metabolism.
1. Age should preferably be 21 years or above.
2. Stop calcium supplement for atleast 24 hrs before the examination.
3.No barium examination should have been done in last 2 weeks.
4. No CT Contrast should have been injected in last 10 days.
5. No radio isotope study should have been done in last 1-2 weeks
6.Vertebroplasty may affect results.
7.Rule out pregnancy. If pregnant, confirm necessity of test and use precautions.
